Hi again,
I hope this is still getting some attention. Just wanted to share good positive news. I’ve been at my new job for a year now. I just got a raise so I’m now making the amount I had set out to make a year ago. Still in a tight budget but that’s because I’m putting more into retirement and my costume project this year was hella expensive. π The job is definitely still a 10 for me. My manager is great and not as manipulative as my previous job. And I’ve been able to really contribute to the team.I also dated a few times this year, nothing panned out but overall this was a much more positive year than last.
The anniversary of my cat’s death is coming up, but it’s also the anniversary of the adoption of my new cat Sebastien. (Who is a proper lap cat. He loves to snuggle and sit on me. Which I love!)
Right now I’m taking a leather armor making course online from a guy who does this for film. He mentioned that THIS was his passion. And it made me kind of think back to something. I am not so passionate about one thing as to make it MY thing that I make a career out of. Sometimes I wish I could easily say “cosplay is my passion”…because while it is a passion, I also love writing stories, sewing stuffed animals. I’m also getting into sculpting which is something I’ve struggled with as an artform in the past. I suppose being able to sum up your passion neatly is kind of nice. But me, I just think my passion is creating. I can’t necessarily pick a favorite because it depends on my mood or season in my life.
Anyway, wanted to voice that the lessons I got from the class are still helping me today. And I love reading the blogs that come up too.
Thanks you!
MaryStanishParticipantAs someone who makes games as well as plays them, ew, what a crummy response. If he were to say “I enjoy reading books”, I bet the response would have been different even though that is equally as passive, but not seen as “immature”. Video games are one of my many passions too. I call it interactive fiction at times. XD
Anyway, had to call that out because yeah. I can relate to that pet peeve. I’ve had to overcome a lot of stereotypes about “who can enjoy video games” for a lot of my life. I own at least 7 gaming consoles.I hope therapy does end up helping and that you find a better place soon!
MaryStanishParticipant@ERYNLEAVENS The garage by the building only had 80 reserved spaces but the company had huge growth to 200+. I get different advice from different ppl. Some park in the neighborhood, some in the nearby grocery store and some in a hospital parking garage.
Thank you for the condolences.
@Kristen Thatβs a good suggestion. Iβll try calling my mom during my commute and when I get home. My former coworker who lost a dog to a similar problem was able to have dinner with me the day after.
MaryStanishParticipantSo far the new job is going very well. The parking situation is not great as I still haven’t found a “sweet spot” where I can park during the day without fear of being towed. But they are having a Halloween costume contest so I’ll be able to wear my costume twice.
However, the good news was tinged with a terrible tragedy. After my first week of training, my cat, Lucius, was having some trouble breathing so I took him to the ER Vet on Sunday. I had to make the decision no pet owner wants to make and had him put to sleep. (The alternative was too painful to put him through and would not have improved the quality of his life.) I got to be with him in the end but I am just full of a grief I’ve never experienced before. I had to go to work the next day still. My heart broken and dreading the moment when I’d have to return to my now empty, quiet apartment. Lucius used to come up and greet me with loud meows whenever I came back from work.
Thankfully, former co-workers, family and friends have been pouring out their hearts to me. But I want to stop crying. I get weepy at work at seemingly random times in the day. Tomorrow I have my usual therapy so I should get some help out of that. But…I really hate going into work just because leaving the apartment then coming back to it empty breaks my heart all over again.
MaryStanishParticipantIt stayed as a 9 for me after the interview. I may have a bit longer of a commute but the pay raise is significant. 10k more than I’m making now. So…yeah a longer commute may not be so bad.
Thanks everyone for the long months of ups and downs. We’ll see how these first few months go.September 28, 2018 at 10:41 am in reply to: PPVE Grads β Share your updates & stay connected #4793MaryStanishParticipantHi Rachel,
Well, great news I’ve accepted a job offer with the company I interviewed with earlier this week. π I give my two-week notice today so I can start on 10/15.
Ha…and the kind of sad thing is that my current manager is organizing a Halloween party at her house for us. >_> I’ll probably still go since it’s a casual get together and not work-related.

It was more of a relief to see the reality. And things are really looking up as I have another potentially 9 company calling me in for an in-person interview next Tuesday. Their location is slightly better and they’re a company that makes a software integrated with the software my company makes. So I’m somewhat familiar with their things already. And they were much clearer on the type of flexibility I can expect.
My weird downside is that they’d want me to start 10/10 which would not give me two weeks’ notice time which I would sorely need. And…I’m not sure if their company has a Halloween party planned. I’ve been working on my costume for nearly 6 months (my thriver side and passion) and my friends don’t really have parties much anymore. (At least not adult parties. XD) I do love working on costumes but I also like an event to wear it at. π Hopefully, I can find something.

It went from 9 down to 1 after that interview. π Terrible location, no organization, and I’d be jumping into an overwhelmingly understaffed company with a lot of products. And not as flexible as I was first lead to believe.
MaryStanishParticipantGreat news. I have an in person interview tomorrow with a potential 9 job. Only drawback I currently have is the location is not ideal. Although, I was told that schedules are flexible and I might be able to work from home once a week. :3 If there was no flexibility, I’d be looking at a very rough commute which would suck and might not be worth the pay raise. I’m a thriver and my me time is the most important thing. If I’m stuck in a car for 2 hours out of my day, it’s not worth it. I’m hoping they can really sell me the position
MaryStanishParticipantSorry to spam (I guess we can’t edit posts?)
But seriously real time stuff. After posting, I checked my email and had two invites for phone interviews. ^^ Prayers answered quickly. Also almost started crying at work. My old and new manager both had nitpicks about my presentation. π And they wonder why I don’t ask for feedback.
